Embracing Followership

“I am reminded how hollow the label of leadership sometimes is
and how heroic followership can be.” – Warren Bennis

It is important for us to remember that though we are leaders, we are also followers. But when should we allow someone else to take the lead?

  • When our expertise or our background or our schedule dictates that someone else on the team is more suited to lead a particular project or situation.
  • When it’s more beneficial to the team that the leader acts as another teammate around the table rather than as the team leader.
  • When we can give another individual room to grow by allowing them to step into the role of leader.

Are you holding tight to your authority as the titled leader, or are your living out your role as a follower too?
