Our pastor, Billy Smith, at Christ Chapel in Zebulon, Ga., just finished a series on how small things make a BIG difference. After all, it’s usually the small things that no one sees that result in the big things that everyone wants. We learned that the small things like our thoughts, our words and our actions that can seem insignificant mean such BIG things to and for ourselves and others.
The same is true in leadership and business. Think about it. We are attracted to the big things like outperforming our competition, having spotless quality in our service, climbing the career ladder, having the best team in the industry, attracting the best workers in the community, and on and on and on.
Yet, these things are the big results we all want. To get these results we must be willing to commit to living out the small things each day.
Small things sound like…
- Showing appreciation
- Being grateful and expressing thankfulness
- Giving compliments and speaking with care and candidness
- Admitting your mistakes
- Saying “I need you” and “thank you”
Small things feel like…
- Welcoming others
- Creating a safe environment
- Being disciplined and consistent
- Positivity and connection
- Developing others
- Trusting and serving
- Taking responsibility without blame or excuses
Small things look like…
- Giving recognition
- Opening doors
- Communicating openly
