Favorite Books by John Maxwell

My favorite author is John Maxwell, and that’s not because his leadership development organization, The John Maxwell Company, is a client of Impacting Leaders.

I followed John Maxwell for over 20 years before working with him, and I like his books so well because he keeps things simple. When you read one of John Maxwell’s books, you think to yourself, “Well, that makes sense, and I agree with it! I think I’ve got it now. What other books should I read?”

With all of Maxwell’s books, I want to challenge you to execute the principles that you learn. In fact, that goes for all the books you read. Isn’t that the point of live-it-out leadership? Bring the books alive through your actions!

The 5 Levels of Leadership: I was fortunate to serve on the 5 levels book team that John assembled to help formulate the writing of his book. This is a must read for anyone aspiring to lead well.

360 Degree Leader: If you can infiltrate this book into your company, you will develop an amazing leadership culture. This might be the best book I have ever implemented inside a company.

Developing the Leader Within You: I picked this one up when I was 27 years old, and it changed my life. I didn’t realize the importance and significance of leading until I read this book.

Developing the Leaders Around You: I immediately read this after Developing the Leader Within You so that I could serve those around me and help them grow with me.

21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership and The 17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork: These are two great books for your team to study together. If you lead a team these are a must to read and a must to implement.

The Maxwell Leadership Bible: I love this Bible! I love comparing scripture to leadership. If you are a believer and a leader, you must invest in this Bible.

Maxwell Daily Reader or Leadership Promises for Every Day: Both of these books provide great short thoughts for starting the day. They’re great for kids too!
